Delease Earns Pair of NEC Weekly Baseball Honors
The Blue Devils travel to Albany for a non-conference tilt on Tuesday, April 25, at 3:00 p.m.
Freshman Michael Delease was named the Northeast Conference Co-Pitcher of the Week and the league's Rookie of the Week it was announced by the conference office on Monday. Delease tossed a complete-game shutout against Bryant on Saturday in a matchup of the league's top two teams.
Delease needed just 65 pitches, throwing 41 for strikes, in the Blue Devils' 8-0 win in the second game of a doubleheader. He allowed just two singles in 7.0 innings of work and did not allow a runner past first base. After allowing a leadoff single to open the game, Delease did not allow another hit to the Bulldogs until a two-out single in the fourth inning. The only other baserunner he allowed was a hit batsmen in the third inning.
Delease improved to 3-0 on the season and has picked up the victory in his last three appearances. Over his last 16.2 innings of work, the rookie right-hander has given just one run on seven hits, while striking out eight and walking three.
The Blue Devils split the four-game series with Bryant and are now 12-5 in conference play and 21-16 overall. Central travels to Albany for a non-conference tilt on Tuesday, April 25, at 3:00 p.m.
