Sagnelli Announces Three Incoming Freshmen For 2010 Season

Central Connecticut head volleyball coach Linda Sagnelli announced three commitments for the upcoming 2010 season on #$%^Wednesday. Amalia Ashley, a defensive specialist from Scottsdale, AZ, Kyla Bielert, a middle blocker from Lebanon, CT, and #$%^Caitlin Van Camp, an outside hitter from Redding, CT will be joining the Blue Devil volleyball team next season.

Four Blue Devils Earn Northeast Conference Honors

Four members of the Central Connecticut State University volleyball team were honored by the Northeast Conference for their achievements this season on Friday night. Senior Jamie Baumert was named to the All-NEC First Team, while juniors Kaitlin Petrella and Amanda Bayer earned second team spots. Petrella also garnered NEC Libero of the Year accolades, while freshman Emily Cochran became CCSU's third NEC Rookie of the Year in the past four seasons. The awards were announced at the conference's banquet on the eve of the NEC Tournament to be held at Long Island.

CCSU Falls to Sacred Heart in NEC Semifinal

Central Connecticut State University was elimated from the Northeast Conference Tournament by Sacred Heart for the second straight year on Saturday afternoon. The second seed Pioneers top the third seed Blue Devils 3-0 (25-18, 30-28, 25-17) at Long Island University. Senior captain Jamie Baumert recorded eight blocks to give her 154 on the season. It marked the most ever in a single season by a CCSU player.

Blue Devils Top St. Francis (NY) In Regular Season Finale

Freshmen Blaike King and Emily Cochran combined for 25 kills and 27 digs, as Central Connecticut State University defeated St. Francis (NY) 3-1 on the road Sunday afternoon. King recorded 13 kills and 12 digs, while Cochran tallied 12 kills and 15 digs in the victory.

Volleyball Upended by Long Island on the Road

Junior captain Amanda Bayer recorded team-bests of 21 assists and 14 digs, but Central Connecticut State University fell to Long Island 3-0 on the road on Saturday afternoon. Freshman Blaike King led the Blue Devils with seven kills in the defeat.

Blue Devils Top Bryant 3-1 at Home

Central Connecticut State University won its four straight match to improve to 17-13 overall and 11-3 in Northeast Conference play with a 3-1 (25-20, 25-14, 13-25, 25-16) home victory over Bryant (10-22, 5-9) Wednesday night. Sophomore Sara DeLacey recorded a career high 11 blocks to go along with six kills on .417 hitting percentage to lead the Blue Devils. CCSU has clinched a berth in the NEC Tournament, but will finish out the regular season with road matches against Long Island and St. Francis (NY) this weekend.

Cochran Earns Third NEC Honor of the Season

Freshman Emily Cochran earned Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week honors after leading CCSU to a 2-0 week, with home wins over Sacred Heart and Fairleigh Dickinson. The outside hitter led CCSU with 19 kills and 18 digs in the 3-1 win over Sacred Heart on Friday and recorded a team-high 14 digs in the Blue Devils' sweep of FDU on Saturday. The Adel, IA native finished with 3.57 kills and 4.57 digs per set on the week and recorded a hitting percentage of .222.

Baumert Second All-Time In Blocks, CCSU Sweeps FDU

Central Connecticut State University recorded 24 blocks to Fairleigh Dickinson's two on the way to defeating the Knights 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-15) at home on Saturday afternoon. Senior captain Jamie Baumert led the Blue Devils with nine blocks, while junior Tori Vaughan and sophomore Sara DeLacey chipped in with four each. CCSU improves to 16-13 overall and 10-3 in Northeast Conference play, while FDU falls to 6-23 on the year and 3-10 in the NEC.

Cochran Lifts CCSU Past Sacred Heart, 3-1

Freshman Emily Cochran recorded 19 kills and 18 to digs to lead Central Connecticut State University to a 3-1 (25-16, 16-25, 32-30, 26-24) victory over visiting Sacred Heart on Friday evening. CCSU avenged two losses to the Pioneers earlier in the season and improve to 15-13 overall and 9-3 in the Northeast Conference. Sacred Heart is also now 9-3 in the NEC and 19-9 on the season.

Jamie Baumert Named to CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team

Senior captain Jamie Baumert was awarded for her work on and off the field, receiving CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 1 honors, announced Thursday. Baumert earned a first team spot for her accomplishments this year. The Elkhorn, NE native is an elementary education major and will now be placed on the National Ballot for consideration for Academic All-American.

King Leads Central to 3-1 Win Over St. Francis (PA)

Freshman Blaike King led Central Connecticut State University (14-13, 8-3) in kills for the second straight match, as the Blue Devils defeated St. Francis (PA) (7-20, 3-7) by a score of 3-1 (25-15, 25-10, 24-26, 25-14) on Sunday afternoon. King tallied a match-best 14 kills, while adding 11 digs, three aces and three blocks in the victory.

Petrella Records 32 Digs in 3-2 Loss to Robert Morris

Junior Kaitlin Petrella recorded 32 digs, the most by any Blue Devil since the 2007 season, but Central Connecticut State University fell to Robert Morris at home by a score of 3-2 (27-25, 17-25, 25-23, 21-25, 16-14). The last time a CCSU player reached the 30 dig plateau was when Petrella tallied 32 in an October 27 match against Robert Morris during her freshman year. Central and RMU traded sets until the Colonials defeated the Blue Devils 16-14 in the fifth set to improve to 7-3 in Northeast Conference play. CCSU falls to 7-3 in the conference with an overall record of 13-13.

Blue Devils Improve to 7-2 in Northeast Conference With Sweep of FDU

Senior captain Jamie Baumert and freshman Emily Cochran each recorded nine kills, as the Central Connecticut State University volleyball team defeated Fairleigh Dickinson 3-0 (25-16, 25-9, 25-18) on the road on Sunday. Baumert added a match-best seven blocks, while Cochran tallied 12 digs to help the Blue Devils improve to 13-12 on the season and 7-2 in the Northeast Conference.

Three Blue Devils finished with double-digit kills, but the Central Connecticut State University volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision on the road versus Sacred Heart on Saturday. Freshman Emily Cochran led the way with 14 kills, while junior Tori Vaughan and sophomore Sara DeLacey each tallied 11 in the defeat. CCSU falls to 12-12 overall and 6-2 in the NEC.

Senior captain Jamie Baumert led the Central Connecticut State University volleyball team with 10 kills and three blocks in a 3-1 (23-25, 25-19, 25-20, 25-16) loss to Rhode Island on the road on Wednesday. The Blue Devils won the first set and then dropped three straight as they fall to 12-11 on the season.

Blue Devils Drop First Northeast Conference Match, Fall to LIU, 3-2

Senior captain Jamie Baumert, junior Tori Vaughan and sophomore Sara DeLacey combined for 19 blocks, but Central Connecticut State University dropped its first Northeast Conference match of the season in a 3-2 (25-17, 13-25, 25-27, 29-27, 15-12) loss at home to defending NEC Champion Long Island. Baumert also recorded a team high 18 kills, while junior captain Amanda Bayer tallied 43 assists and 17 digs in the defeat.
