Men's Track in the Hunt at NEC Outdoor Championships
The Central Connecticut men's track team had a solid first day at the 2011 Northeast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The Blue Devils won the 4 X 800 relay and posted multiple athletes in the top-five of other events. As a team the Blue Devil men are in second place with 40 team points, Monmouth is currently in the lead with 51.5 points.

The Blue Devils won the 4 X 800 relay and posted multiple athletes in the top-five of other events. The Blue Devil team of sophomore Michael Waterbury, junior Robert Weston, junior Jeremy Schmid, and sophomore Mohamed Hrezi earned first place points with 7:38.11 time in the 4 X 800. Schmid and Herzi both also qualified as individuals for tomorrow finals. Schmid ran a 3:56.99 to post the fastest qualifying time in the 1500 meters, and Hrezi ran a 1:55.35 to qualify for tomorrow's 800 meter final.
Running in the 10,000 meter final on Saturday were junior Sam Alexander and sophomore Craig Hunt. Alexander ran a 31:13.22 to finish in second place and Hunt ran a 31:40.09 to finish in third.
On the infield the Blue Devils placed three jumpers in the top-five of the high jump. Juniot Nick Trifone cleared 6' 8.25" to finish third. Joining him in the top-five were freshman Denzell Jones who finished fourth with a 6' 7" jump and junior Matt Berube who cleared 6' 6" to finished fifth.
Sophomore Aaron Radden qualified for the final in both the 100 and 200 meter events. He ran the fasted 200 meter time with a 21.40 and the second fastest 100 in 10.84. Also, sophomore Nick Lindblom qualified for both the 110 and 400 meter hurdle finals.
The Northeast Conference Championships will continue tomorrow as more individual champions will be crowned along with the 2011 NEC Outdoor Track Champion.
