Men's Track Competes at UMass, Smith Wins 200 Meters
Sean Smith won the 200 meter dash and placed fourth in the 400 to lead the Central Connecticut men's track and field team at the UMass Pre-Conference Meet. The Blue Devils finished sixth out of nine teams on Saturday. Smith, a senior from Norwich, CT, finished the 200 in 21.88 seconds, and crossed the line in 49.33 seconds in the 400.

CCSU totaled 61 team points to place sixth. They finished ahead of American International, Harvard and Hartford. Dartmouth won the meet with 177.5 points, while New Hampshire and the host Minutemen finished second and third, respectively.
Sophomore Brian Lowe helped in the sprints, taking third place in the 100 meter dash in a time of 11.11 seconds. A couple of underclassmen ran well in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. Sophomore Robert Weston placed second, crossing the line in 9:58.00, while freshman Anthony Gonsalves took fourth in 10:09.32.
Senior Matthew Whalen was the final Blue Devil to record a top five finish on the track. He took fifth in the 1,500, timing in at 1:55.68. Matt Berube continued to succeed in the jumping events this weekend. The freshman placed third in the long jump, recording a distance of 6.82 meters, and also took eighth place in the high jump. He finished right behind fellow freshman Nick Trifone, who took seventh. Both student-athletes recorded heights of 1.91 meters in the event.
The Blue Devils' 4x100 meter relay team qualified for the IC4A
Championships while placing third in a time of 42.46 seconds. The
team was comprised of Tom Hylan, Smith, Lowe, and Tristan
Roberts.
