Whalen Wins 1500, CCSU Takes 3rd at Holy Cross Invite
Matthew Whalen won the 1,500 meter run as the Central Connecticut men's track and field team place third at the Holy Cross Invitational on Saturday. The senior crossed the line in 3 minutes and 59.51 seconds. Freshman Matt Berube put forth top four finishes in all three jumping events. He placed second in the triple jump, recording a distance of 13.61 meters and took fourth in both the long and high jump events, with marks of 6.62 and 1.83 meters, respectively.

The Blue Devils finished with 94 total points, placing behind runner-up Bryant (105) and the host Crusaders, who won the meet with 148 points. CCSU edged out Maine (86) and Colgate (80), which finished in fourth and fifth place. American International and Stonehill tied for seventh with 77 points, while Hartford was eighth with 60.
Sean Smith performed well in the sprints, taking third in the 200 meters and fourth in the 100 meter dash. The senior finished in a time of 22.56 seconds for the 200 and crossed the line in 11.49 seconds in the 100.
Freshman Rashad Williams also put forth two top five finishes. He placed third in the discus, with a mark of 38.28 meters, and fifth in the shot put, recording a distance of 13.35 meters.
Central Connecticut will next compete at the UMass
Pre-Conference Meet on Saturday April 25 before preparing for the
Northeast Conference Championships on May 2 and 3.
