Men's Track Competes at New England Championships
Four individuals and a relay team received All-New England honors for the Central Connecticut men's track and field team, while they placed 15th out of 33 scoring teams at the New England Championships in Boston, MA. Sean Smith placed fifth in the 400 meters, R.J. Simeone took fourth in the 500, Matthew Whalen was seventh in the 1,000 meter run and Matt Berube tied for seventh in the high jump. The 4x800 meter relay team of Whalen, Simeone, Robert Weston and Dan Watson added an eighth place finish to give CCSU 13.5 points in the meet.

The Blue Devils finished just ahead of American International (13 points) and New Haven (12 points), while right behind Vermont (16 points) and Boston University (17 points). UConn won the championship with 128.5 points, with New Hampshire and UMass-Lowell taking second and third with 90 and 73 points, respectively.
Smith's crossed the line in 48.91 seconds for his fifth place finish in the 400 meters, while Simeone took 1:04.50 to take fourth in the 500. Whalen was less than half a second off the school record when he finished his seventh place finish in the 1,000 at 2:30.45. Berube jumped 6 feet 4.25 inches to tie for his seventh place finish in the high jump. The 4x800 team finished eighth in 7:51.19.
Smith, Simeone and the relay team, as well as Ry Sanderson have
qualified for the IC4A Championships next weekend.
