Season
Five Sign On For Men's XC/Track

The Central Connecticut men's cross country and track and field program announced five National Letter of Intent signings for #$%^the 2009-10. Mohamed Hrezi of Naugatuck, Craig Hunt of New Milford, Kyle Roberts of Higganum, Chris Rosenberg of West #$%^Hartford, and Josh Trares of Tolland have committed to CCSU for next season. This core of student-athletes gives the Blue #$%^Devils a strong incoming class of home grown talent.

Blue Devils Compete at IC4A Championships

Sean Smith, Matt Berube and the Central Connecticut 4x100 meter relay team competed at the IC4A Championships in Princeton, NJ on Saturday. Smith finished the 400 meter dash in 49.38 seconds, while Berube took 20th in the long jump, recording a distance of 6.77 meters. The relay team of Tom Hylan, Smith, Brian Lowe and Tristan Roberts placed 24th with a time of 42.73 seconds.

Smith Scores For CCSU at New Englands

Sean Smith placed in both the 200 and 400 meters to score the only points for Central Connecticut at the New England Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The senior took fifth place in the 400, crossing the line in 48.24 seconds, and placed seventh in the 200 with a time of 22.27 seconds. Smith picked up six points to lead the Blue Devils to 29th out of 41 scoring teams at UMass this weekend.

Smith Qualifies For Finals In 200, 400 at New Englands

Senior Sean Smith qualified for the finals in the 200 and 400 meters at the New England Outdoor Track and Field Championships at UMass. He crossed the line in 21.85 seconds in the 200 and 48.60 in the 400 meters. Five other Central Connecticut student-athletes finished in the the top 25 in their respective events on Saturday.

Whalen, Sanderson Lead Men's Track at NEC Championships

Senior Matthew Whalen and junior Ry Sanderson placed second in their respective events for Central Connecticut as the Blue Devils placed fifth at the Northeast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships. It was the best finish for CCSU since the team took fifth back in 2001. Whalen put forth his silver medal performance in the 1,500 meters, crossing the line in 4:03.82. Sanderson, after finishing second in the 10,000 on Saturday, took second in the 5,000 meter run on Sunday, recording a time of 15:04.54.

CCSU in 3rd After Day One at NEC Championships

Ry Sanderson and Nick Trifone put forth silver medal performances to pace Central Connecticut during day one of competition at the Northeast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Sanderson took second in the 10,000 meters, crossing the line in 31:36.20. Trifone was second in the high jump, recording a height of 1.92 meters. The Blue Devils are currently in third place with 37.5 points heading into the final day of competition on Sunday.

Men's Track Competes at UMass, Smith Wins 200 Meters

Sean Smith won the 200 meter dash and placed fourth in the 400 to lead the Central Connecticut men's track and field team at the UMass Pre-Conference Meet. The Blue Devils finished sixth out of nine teams on Saturday. Smith, a senior from Norwich, CT, finished the 200 in 21.88 seconds, and crossed the line in 49.33 seconds in the 400.

Eric Blake is 9th American Finisher at Boston Marathon

Central Connecticut assistant track and cross country coach Eric Blake finished 24th at the Boston Marathon this morning. His time of two hours, 23 minutes and 54 seconds was an improvement on last year's finish and made Blake the ninth American to cross the line in Boston, MA.

Whalen Wins 1500, CCSU Takes 3rd at Holy Cross Invite

Matthew Whalen won the 1,500 meter run as the Central Connecticut men's track and field team place third at the Holy Cross Invitational on Saturday. The senior crossed the line in 3 minutes and 59.51 seconds. Freshman Matt Berube put forth top four finishes in all three jumping events. He placed second in the triple jump, recording a distance of 13.61 meters and took fourth in both the long and high jump events, with marks of 6.62 and 1.83 meters, respectively.

Berube Sweeps Jump Events As CCSU Places 2nd At UMass

Matt Berube won all three jumping events as the Central Connecticut men's track and field team placed second at the UMass Spring Meet on Saturday. The freshman won the triple jump with a mark of 13.58 meters, the high jump with 1.91 meters and the long jump with a distance of 6.83 meters. The Blue Devils totaled 113 points and were topped by the host Minutemen who finished with 186 team points.

Men's Track Competes At UConn Invitational

Freshman Matt Berube placed second in the long jump and put forth a bronze medal performance in the high jump, while the Central Connecticut men's track and field team competed at the UConn Alumni Invitational on Saturday. Berube recorded a distance of 6.72 meters in the long, while jumping a height of 1.89 meters in the high jump.

Men's Track Picked 8th In Coaches' Poll

The Central Connecticut men's track & field team was selected eighth in the Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll for the outdoor season, released today. The Blue Devils finished 9th out of 11 teams at last year's NEC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, but were fourth this winter at the NEC Indoor Championships.

Men's Track Competes at Disney Invitational

The Central Connecticut men's track and field team competed in the Disney Invitational over the weekend at Walt Disney World's Wide World of Sports complex in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. Seven Blue Devil student-athletes qualified for final heat competition, including Matt Berube who placed in three events. The freshman took third in both the high and triple jump, while placing fourth in the long jump. Berube recorded a distance of 7.0 meters in the long, while jumping 1.94 and 14.7 meters in the high and triple jump, respectively.

Men's Track Finishes Indoor Season at IC4As

The Central Connecticut men's track and field team finished their indoor season this weekend as they competed in the IC4A Championships in Boston, MA. Junior R.J. Simeone set a personal record in the 500 meters, placing 20th with a time of 1:04.26.

Men's Track Competes at New England Championships

Four individuals and a relay team received All-New England honors for the Central Connecticut men's track and field team, while they placed 15th out of 33 scoring teams at the New England Championships in Boston, MA. Sean Smith placed fifth in the 400 meters, R.J. Simeone took fourth in the 500, Matthew Whalen was seventh in the 1,000 meter run and Matt Berube tied for seventh in the high jump. The 4x800 meter relay team of Whalen, Simeone, Robert Weston and Dan Watson added an eighth place finish to give CCSU 13.5 points in the meet.

Men's Track Places 4th at NECs, Sanderson Wins 5,000 Meters

With a gold medal performance in the 5,000 meters and a third place finish in the 3,000, junior Ry Sanderson led the Central Connecticut men's track and field team to their best finish at the Northeast Conference Indoor Championships since joining the league in 1998. The Blue Devils placed fourth out of 12 teams in competition at the 2009 NEC Indoor Championships in Landover, MD. Sanderson recorded a time of 14:51.69 to win the 5,000 and crossed the line in 8:43.31 to grab third in the 3,000 meter run.
