Men's Soccer Moves to 6-0 in Conference Play
Blue Devils top Robert Morris on Senior Day
The Central Connecticut men's soccer team improved to 6-0 in Northeast Conference play with a 2-1 home victory over Robert Morris on Sunday afternoon. The win pushes the Blue Devils to 9-7-1 overall. Robert Morris falls to 8-7-2 overall and 2-4 in league action with the loss.
Central will complete the regular season next Sunday on the road at Bryant beginning at 1 p.m.
Central wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, as sophomore Zach Zurita posted his fifth goal of the season 52 seconds into the match to give the Blue Devils the early lead. Off a Robert Morris turnover, junior Stephen Walmsley fed Zurita along the left side and Zurita beat the Colonial keeper to the lower left corner of the goal.
The lead reached 2-0 in the second half as senior Eddy Bogle scored his fifth goal of the season on a pass from Zurita. Zurita fed Bogle at the top of the box and the senior beat the Robert Morris goalkeeper to the lower left corner again for the two-goal lead.
The Colonials cut the lead in half with a penalty kick goal from Neco Brett later in the second half. The goal was Brett's 13th of the season.
Zurita finished the game with a goal and an assist. Bogle also scored, each was their fifth of the season.
Junior goalkeeper Josef Abele made eight saves in net, including several key stops in the second half. He allowed only the penalty kick goal.
Prior to the match the Blue Devils honored the three members of their senior class. Bogle, defender Jose Gamboa and midfielder Manny Nobre were all honored prior to their final regular season home match.
