Men's Soccer Falls 3-0 to West Virginia on Friday Night
Blue Devils will travel to Penn State on Sunday at 7 p.m.
The Central Connecticut men's soccer team dropped its season-opener on Friday night, 3-0, on the road at West Virginia. The Blue Devils, who play their first five games of the season away from home will travel to Penn State on Sunday for a match at 7 p.m.
Junior goalkeeper Josef Abele, making his first career start in net for the Blue Devils, posted four saves in the match. West Virginia had 24 total shots in the game, including eight on goal.
The Blue Devils had nine shots in the match, including three on goal. West Virginia goalkeeper Lee Johnston stopped all three to post the shutout.
For the Blue Devils, sophomore forward Zach Zurita led the offense with three shots, including one on goal. Classmate Freddy Metellus added a pair of shots with one coming on goal.
The Mountaineers struck quick with a goal in the fourth minute of the opening half. Francio Henry put the home team on top 1-0. West Virginia led 2-0 at the half, and their final goal came in the 66th minute for the 3-0 victory.
The Blue Devils, who finished 8-8-2 a year ago, are back in action on Sunday night on the road at Penn State beginning at 7 p.m.
