Sacred Heart opened the conference season with a 79-75 win over defending champion LIU Brooklyn. E.J. Anosike hit a go-ahead three-pointer with under a minute to play and finished with a game-high 19 points. Koreem Ozier averages 20.0 points per game and has played in the past three games after missing a month of action. Anosike (13.2 ppg) is also one of five Pioneers in double-figures to go with 7.6 rebounds.

FOR OPENERS • Central Connecticut faces in-state rival Sacred Heart on Saturday to begin a string of three straight NEC road games. This road stretch is the 3rd time CCSU will play 3+ straight road games - they will play 4 straight on the road Feb. 7-16. With 6 non-league wins, CCSU won 6+ non-league games in consecutive years for the first time since 1998-99 (6-3) & 1999-2000 (7-2). Central was 7-6 last year in non-NEC play. Following today's game Central travels to Fairleigh Dickinson on Jan. 10 before going on to face Mount St. Mary's on Jan. 12.
