Women's Basketball Falls to UHart
The Central Connecticut women's basketball team fell to Hartford, 65-56, on Tuesday night.
Sophomore Lauren Arbogast posted career-highs with 12 points and seven rebounds, but the Central Connecticut women's basketball team fell to Hartford by a score of 65-56 on Tuesday night. The Blue Devils fall to 2-1 with the loss, Hartford improves to 3-1. Arbogast was one of three Blue Devils to finish the game with double-digit points.
The Blue Devils trailed the Hawks 27-20 heading into halftime, despite six points each from sophomores Jessica Babe and Lauren Arbogast. The turning point of the half came when the Hawks went on a 6-0 run to push their lead to 23-14.
Central answered with a six point run of their own to cut the lead to 23-20. The run was sparked by Arbogast who hit a pair of free throws. Freshman Johnna Fisher followed with a layup and Jess Babe dropped in the final points for Central with a pair of free throws.
The Babe free throws were the final points of the half for Central, while the Hawks scored four more to finish the half with a seven point lead.
The Hawks opened the half on a 10-4 run that forced the Blue Devils into a 37-24 deficit. The Blue Devils traded scores with Hartford between the 12 minute and eight minute marks, before recording three straight baskets to cut the Hartford lead to 10.
Central continued to trade shots with the Hawks, but the Blue Devils were not able to cut the lead to single digits until freshman Danielle Davis hit a three pointer with 2:45 left in the game to make it a 56-49 game.
Central outscored the Hawks 24-19 over the final nine minutes of play, but the Blue Devils were unable to chip away the lead and Hartford finished with a 65-56 victory.
Junior Kirsten Daamen finished with a team-high 13 points. It was the second straight game she led the team in scoring. She scored 10 of her 13 points in the second half before fouling out.
Jess Babe finished with 10 points, four steals and three assists, but was limited to only 22 minutes on the court because of foul trouble.
Central will return to the court this Sunday in Detrick Gym. The Blue Devils will host New Hampshire for a 2 p.m. tip-off.
