Alexander Named to Team USA
The former Blue Devil standout and current CCSU assistant cross country coach has qualified to be a member of Team USA.
Central Connecticut assistant cross country coach Sam Alexander was named to Team USA for the 25th Bupa Great Edinburgh Cross Country race on Saturday, January 11 in Edinburgh, Scotland, USA Track & Field (USATF) announced Friday. He will join elite runners from across the nation for next Saturday's competition.
The race will be streamed LIVE beginning at 8:15 a.m. ET on www.USATF.tv.
Alexander, a former Blue Devil standout, qualified to compete on the team by finishing ninth out of 410 runners at the USA Club Cross Country Championships in December. Alexander completed the 10K in a time of 31:27, registering a pace of just over five minutes per mile. He finished just 22 seconds behind the lead runner.
During his tenure as a Blue Devil, Alexander racked up numerous accolades including the 2011 Northeast Conference Individual Champion title, NEC All-Conference honors in 2010 and 2011 and also led CCSU to it's third-straight NEC victory in his final season.
Alexander joined the Blue Devil coaching staff in the fall of 2012, in which CCSU won its fourth consecutive NEC title, followed by its fifth this past season.
Saturday, January 11, will be the 25th staging of the Great International XCountry event, which has featured some of the world's best athletes since its inception in 1988.
