Men's XC Takes 11th at New England Championships
The CCSU men's cross country team finished 11th out of 37 teams at the New England Championships Sunday.
The Central Connecticut men's cross country team finished 11th out of 37 teams at the New England Cross Country Championships in Westfield, MA Sunday. Junior Colby Delbene finished first for the Blue Devils, coming in 13th place out of 261 runners with a time of 24:45.21. Delbene finished just under a minute behind first place winner, Mike Biwott, from American International.
Crossing the finish line second for Central was junior Andrew Hill, who placed 53rd overall with a time of 25:25.28. Just nine seconds later, Hill was followed by sophomore Brian Biekert in 64th. Rounding out the scoring for the Blue Devils was freshman David Scheibenpflug (126th) with a time of 26:08.63 followed closely by sophomore Patrick Hubbell (128th) who crossed the line in 26:09.06.
Freshman Tyler Raymond (142nd) and redshirt-freshman Matt Walker (178th) also participated in the race for CCSU.
Dartmouth earned the New England Cross Country Champion title, coming in first place overall, followed by Boston College, Yale, Boston University, Tufts, Bowdoin, American International, Williams, Northeastern and the University of Connecticut. Central finished just 20 points behind UCONN and was followed by Bentley, MIT, Stonehill, Southern Connecticut, Fairfield, Springfield, Sacred Heart, UMASS Amhurst, New Hampshire, Holy Cross, Maine, Quinnipiac, Vermont, Keene State, Hartford, Lyndon State, UMASS Lowell, Brandeis, Rhode Island, Bryant, Merrimack, Franklin Pierce, New Haven, Eastern Connecticut, St. Michael's and UMASS Boston.
Central placed highest among the Northeast Conference teams competing in the race and will return to action on Friday, Oct. 19 at the CCSU Mini Meet. The men's race is set to begin at 4 p.m. at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain, CT.
