CCSU Football Finalizes 2021 Schedule
Central Connecticut head coach Ryan McCarthy has announced the Blue Devils have finalized their schedule for the upcoming fall 2021 season. Central will open the season at home on Friday, September 3, and play six home games at Arute Field as it looks to win its seventh Northeast Conference football crown.
The Blue Devils will open the season against Southern Connecticut on Friday, Sept. 3, in the first meetings between the schools since 2011. CCSU will play its Northeast Conference opener the following week when it travels to Wagner on Sept. 11.
Central will host two more non-conference contests against Southeastern Louisiana (Sept. 18) and Homecoming against Columbia (Oct. 9). Southeastern finished the spring 2021 season ranked in both the Stats Perform media poll (20th) and the AFCA Coaches Poll (21st). CCSU and the Lions will meet for the third straight season, with the Blue Devils winning 2019's meeting and the Lions in 2018.
Central's lone non-conference road game will come on a trip to face the University of Miami on Sept. 25. The meeting will be the first between the schools, while CCSU will be facing an ACC opponent for the second time after facing Syracuse to open the 2017 season.
The Blue Devils will close the regular season with six straight Northeast Conference contests beginning on Oct. 16 with a game at Sacred Heart. Central will host LIU (Oct. 23), Bryant (Nov. 6) before closing the regular season against Saint Francis U (Nov. 20).
In addition to its games at Wagner and Sacred Heart, Central will play conference road games at Merrimack (Oct. 30) and at Duquesne (Nov. 13).
Central won its sixth Northeast Conference title in 2019 after posting a program-record 11-2 record, which included an eight-game win streak. The Blue Devils finished the campaign ranked in both Top 25 polls after facing Albany in the FCS Playoffs. CCSU did not play during the 2020-21 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
