Brooke Morabito and Wenesha Stewart were named the Track and Field Athletes of the Week for their performances this past week.
Senior Distance runner Brooke Morabito was named the NEC Track Athlete of the Week after running a PR in the 1500m and placing 17th in the Penn Relays on Thursday. The New Milford native ran a 4:24.77 and holds the top 1500m time in the circuit and the 24th-best time in the Division One Northeast Region. Morabito celebrated senior day on Friday before the Blue Devil Invite and will be running in her final NEC Championship starting on May 4th in New Britain.
Graduate student Wenesha Stewart has proven to be a great asset to the CCSU Track and Field team. Her 42.10m throw in the discus was a personal best that earned her the top spot in the Blue Devil Invite and currently stands as the top mark in the NEC. She placed first in Friday's meet with a personal best 13.39m mark in the Shot Put. She ranks second in the NEC in shot put, first in Discus, and 11th in the Hammer. CCSU Thrower Marina Perry holds top five marks in Shot Put, Discus, and Hammer as well. The duo of Perry and Stewart will be fun to watch this weekend in the NEC Championship hosted by Central.
The Blue Devils' next meet is Saturday, May 4th, at The Northeast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Central Connecticut.
