Women’s Track Sets Five Personal Bests at David Hemery Invitational
Women's track competes at the 2019 NEC Indoor Track and Field Championships on Feb. 15-16 at Wagner.
The Central Connecticut women's indoor track and field team set five personal records on Feb. 8 at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational at Boston University.
Two personal bests came in the field events. Freshman Danyelle Engels competed in the shot put throwing a personal best 10.88 meters beating her previous record of 10.81 meters. Junior Hailey Rospierski jumped 5.11 meters in the long jump recording a new collegiate best and finishing 26th out of 40.
Senior Dawn Hubbell crushed her pervious time of 5:11.83 after running the one mile in 5:09.57. She finished in 93rd place out of a field of 197 runners.
Rounding out the personal record setting was junior Taylor Davis and freshman Samantha Vasquez in the 200 meter dash. Out of a field of 221 runners, Davis recorded a 25.94 surpassing her old time of 26.31 for a 72nd place finish. Vasquez finished 179th clocking in at 27.47.
The duo each competed in one other track event. Davis represented Central in the 60 meter dash recording a time of 8.22 finishing 22nd out of 51 runners. Vasquez crossed the finish line at 1:02.77 in the 400 meter dash.
Three Blue Devils ran in the 800 meter run. Junior Megan Brawner finished first for Central in 2:15.40 for a 49th place finish. Rookie Libby Walker was next in at 2:41.65 and sophomore Kailyn Accetura clocked in at 2:48.20.
In the women's 4x400 relay consisting of Brawner, Accetura, Walker, and Stevens, the team finished with a time of 4:30.29.
In the rest of the field events, junior Kadizha Benjamin leaped 1.55 meters in the high jump earning a 16th place finish. In the women's weighted throw, senior Abrah Toomey threw 13.34 meters and sophomore Celine Delice 11.78 meters.
The Central Connecticut women's track and field team will next compete on Friday and Saturday February 15-16 for the 2019 Northeast Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships. The event will be hosted by Wagner in Staten Island, NY, inside the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.
