Track Records Four Personal Bests at Ramapo Friday
Women's track recorded four personal bests and two first place finishes Friday
The Central Connecticut women's indoor track and field team set four new personal records and earned two first place finishes on Friday, Jan. 12 at the Ramapo College Indoor Track and Field Season Opener in New York, NY.
Freshman Samantha Vasquez set a personal best in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:03.46 to earn a first-place finish. Senior Sierra Nesmith won the event with a time of 57.75.
Another freshman, Emily Appleton broke her 800-meter dash time from the Wagner Invitational finishing in eighth place in 2:54.90.
Three Blue Devils competed in the women's high jump. Junior Haile Rospierski finished second jumping 1.65 meters. Senior McKenna Kilian finished third at 1.60m and junior Kadizha Benjamin jumped 1.55 meters for a seventh-place finish.
Rospierski and Kilian also dominated in the 60-meter hurdles finishing in second and fourth place with times of 9.28 and 9.61 respectively.
Rookie Taylor Davis earned a third place finish in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.69, while classmate Libby Walker ran the 1,000-meter dash in 3:28.91 finishing sixth.
Three Central runners finished in the top 10 in the 1-mile race. Junior Megan Brawner finished first overall in 5:10.60, senior Dawn Hubbell came in fourth place in 5:26.51, and freshman Kaitlyn Stevens finished eighth in her debut with a time of 5:41.92.
In shot put, rookie Danyelle Engles improved her time from last week finishing fourth overall recording a 10.49 meter throw. Sophomores Celine Delice and Kailyn Accetura also competed in the event throwing 7.76 and 4.78 meters respectively.
Delice and Engles also competed in the weighted throw. Delice threw 10.26 meters for a sixth place finish and Engles improved from the Wagner Invitational throwing 8.17 meters finishing eighth.
The women's 4x400 team finished first in the event finishing with a time of 4:08.55.
The Central Connecticut women's indoor track and field team travels to Boston, MA next week for the Northeastern Collegiate Invitational on Friday, Jan. 18.
