Women's Soccer Trio Earn All-Region, McLaughlin Named First Team
A trio of Central Connecticut women's soccer standouts were named to the United Soccer Coaches All-North Region Team on Thursday. Roma McLaughlin was recognized with First Team honors, while Delaney Lawler and Kelly Brady were both named to the Third Team.
A trio of Central Connecticut women's soccer standouts were named to the United Soccer Coaches All-North Region Team on Thursday. Roma McLaughlin was recognized with First Team honors, while Delaney Lawler and Kelly Brady were both named to the Third Team.
McLaughlin capped her decorated career in 2022, earning All-Region honors for the fourth time. The four-time Northeast Conference Midfielder of the Year was also the Blue Devils' first two-time All-American. McLaughlin, who was named to the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Women's Players to Watch list and the 2022 MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List prior to the season, anchored the CCSU midfield as she scored three goals and helped the Blue Devils win a fifth straight NEC regular season crown. A five-time All-NEC First Team selection, she finished her career with 28 goals and 13 assists for 69 points in 74 career games.
Lawler helped CCSU's defense rank second in the NEC in goals against average (1.00) and shutouts (8) en route to earning First Team All-NEC honors. In 50 career contests, she added a goal and an assist. Lawler was also named to the College Sports Communicators Acaademic All-District Team.
Brady was an integral part of the Blue Devils attack with six goals and 17 points. She ranked second in the NEC in points per game (1.14) and led CCSU with 17 points. The 2020-21 NEC Rookie of the Year, is a three-time All-NEC honoree and has collected 13 goals and 13 assists in 42 career contests.
The Blue Devils finished the 2022 campaign with a 9-6-2 record. CCSU won its fifth consecutive NEC regular season crown with an unbeaten 7-0-2 record.
