CCSU Men's and Women's Soccer Earn Team Academic Awards
The Central Connecticut men's and women's soccer teams were both honored with the United Soccer Coaches College Team Academic Award it was announced on Thursday. The men earned the honor for the eighth time, including the second straight season, while the women were recognized for the 21st consecutive season. The honor recognizes teams that collected a combined team grade point average of 3.0 or higher during the 20201-22 academic year.

MEN'S ALL-TIME RECIPIENTS
A total of 746 teams posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Of that total, CCSU was one of 130 schools to have both their men's and women's programs recognized.
Under head coach Mick D'Arcy, the women's soccer team won its fourth consecutive Northeast Conference championship in 2021. The Blue Devils also had 18 student-athletes named to the NEC Fall Academic Honor Roll (3.2+ GPA) and 10 named to the NEC Fall Commissioner's Honor Roll (3.75+ GPA). Among the honorees, was Erica Bardes who was named NEC Women's Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
The men's soccer team was recognized with the Team Academic Award for the second time under interim head coach Dave Kelly. The Blue Devils had 12 student-athletes named to the NEC Fall Academic Honor Roll, and four more named to the NEC Fall Commissioner's Honor Roll. In two seasons at the helm of the program, Kelly has helped guide youthful squads to as many wins combined in two seasons as they had in the previous four campaigns combined.
United Soccer Coaches annually celebrates the academic achievements teams whose student-athletes collectively demonstrate a commitment to excellence in their studies over the course of a full academic year.
The CCSU women's soccer team opens its season at home on Thursday, August 18 when it hosts Siena. The men's soccer team begins the 2022 season on Thursday, August 25 against Hartford at CCSU Soccer Field.
