Women's Lacrosse Wins at Hartford; Vendel Earns 1st Win

The Central Connecticut women's lacrosse team earned its first win of the season, 11-8, at Hartford on Wednesday. CCSU head coach Betsy Vendel earned her first career win with the victory and Central improves to 1-1 on the year. Senior Carson Adelberger led the Blue Devils with five goals.
Central travels to Niagara on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Hartford scored the opening two goals before CCSU came back with four unanswered scores to take a 4-2 lead. Senior Carson Adelberger scored on each end of the run, while freshman Jessica Denike and sophomore Kaitlyn Rapp added goals in between.
Following a Hawks score, Denike and freshman Raphaela DaSilva scored for the Blue Devils before halftime to make it 6-3 at the intermission.
On the other side of halftime, Adelberger and junior Morgan Sinton scored two early CCSU goals to extend the lead to 8-3. After a Hartford score, junior Molly Coogan and Adelberger each recorded goals to pad Central's lead at 10-4.
Hartford would mount a rally, scoring back-to-back goals to make it 10-6 with 5:53 to play. Adelberger scored with 2:51 remaining to push the CCSU lead back to five goals. Hartford add two goals in the final minutes for the final margin.
Adelberger led CCSU with five goals, while Denike added a pair of scores. Sinton had three assists and a goal, while Rapp added a pair of assists and a goal.
Senior Jackie Branthover made eight saves for the Blue Devils in the win. Sophomore Olivia Prizzi had six groundballs and caused three turnovers.
Eight different Hawks scored goals, while Billy McLaughlin had a goal and three assists. Emma Privitera made 16 saves.
The Blue Devils are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Niagara for a 1 p.m. start.
