Six Student-Athletes in Lax Class of 2016
Head coach Kelly Nangle has announced her first recruiting class at CCSU.
Head lacrosse coach Kelly Nangle has announced the addition of six student-athletes to the Central Connecticut Class of 2016. This is the first recruiting class for Nangle, who just completed her first season and was named NEC Coach of the Year following the Blue Devils (7-9, 5-4 NEC) seven win season.
"We are very excited to officially welcome the six newest members of our women's lacrosse program into the Blue Devil family. This is an extremely athletic class with a lot of potential," Nangle said. "As a team, we made huge strides this year and with the addition of this class I expect us to progress even further."
"I am looking forward to the start of fall practice to begin working with this group. I know the team is excited to get to work."
Felicia Branagan - 5'9" - Goalkeeper - Millville, NJ
Branagan earned four varsity letters under coach Claudia McCarthy at Millville Senior High School. She earned a pair All-Conference selections while leading her team to two conference titles. In addition, she was a two-time first team selection by The Press and earned Most Valuable Player honors.
Branagan on CCSU: "It was a place I could see myself loving!"
Winnie Caetta - 5'8" - Defense - Madison, NJ
Caetta played her high school lacrosse for Megan Anderson at Madison High School. A two-time All-Conference and All-County selection, she also earned Defensive Most Valuable Player honors twice during her high school career.
Caetta on CCSU: "I loved the atmosphere and got a gut feeling when I was on the campus. Athletic wise, the girls and coaching staff were so welcoming and really determined for their season, which was so appealing to me."
Madison Hughes - 5'6" - Midfield - Oak Bluffs, MA
Hughes played her high school lacrosse under coach Betsy Dripps at Martha's Vineyard Regional. A Mass Maritime All-Star, she also earned All-Star honors from the Eastern Athletic Conference after leading the league in scoring. A gold and silver medalist at the Bay State Games, she totaled nine varsity letters over three sports in high school.
Hughes on CCSU: "CCSU fits me academically, athletically, and socially."
Elyse Malecki - 5'4" - Attack - Hillsborough, NJ
Malecki earned four varsity letters playing for coach Beth Murrin at Hillsborough High School. She was honored with the Athlete of the Month Award in April 2012 and earned the 2011 National Lacrosse Classic Award.
Malecki on CCSU: "I immediately fell in love with Central the moment I stepped on campus. Everything and everyone was so inviting and I knew CCSU was a place I could see myself calling home. The athletic program is so well respected and I especially loved every part of the lacrosse program. I knew I could see myself being comfortable at Central, and successful in academics and athletics. I can't wait to be a Blue Devil!"
Falynn McCartney - 5'9" - Midfield - North Kingston, RI
McCartney played her high school lacrosse for coach Maggie Naughton at LaSalle Academy. She earned First Team All-State honors after her sophomore and junior seasons and posted exceptional numbers again as a senior.
McCartney on CCSU: "I wanted to go to a big school and have the opportunity to play Division I lacrosse. CCSU also offered all the majors I was interested in and was the perfect fit."
Morgan Wallace - 5'5" - Defense - Kent, OH
Wallace earned four varsity letters playing lacrosse for Christy Mitchell at Theodore Roosevelt High School. In 2011, she earned recognition as an Honorable Mention All-Ohio North selection.
Wallace on CCSU: "I chose CCSU because of its athletic and academic excellence. I loved my meeting with the women's lacrosse coaching staff as well as the athletic director."
