The Central Connecticut lacrosse team defeated LIU Brooklyn, 18-6, on Friday afternoon. The Blue Devils (4-4, 2-0 NEC) were led by a five goal performance from sophomore Amanda Toke. The Blue Devils are 2-0 in NEC play for the first time ever.
The Blue Devils scored 12 of their season-high 18 goals in the first half against the Blackbirds (0-10, 0-3 NEC).
Central opened the game on a 3-0 run, with sophomore Claire Healy scoring the first two goals. She was assisted on the first goal by junior Meaghan McCurry and on the second by senior Ashley Perkoski.
Perkoski then picked up her second assist of the day by finding Toke for her first goal of the game. Perkoski would finish the game with four of her seven points coming via assist.
After a goal by LIU, McCurry scored an unassisted goal and freshman Jessica Sudock notched her first career score. Perkoski recorded her third assist of the game on Sudock's goal.
LIU pulled together a small run, scoring three goals, with Central finding the net just once. Toke picked up her only assist of the day passing to McCurry for her second goal.
Ahead 6-4 with 14:33 remaining, the Blue Devils opened a 6-0 run to close the first half. Junior Betsy Vendel score a pair of goals, with Healy assisting on the first and then the second coming unassisted.
From that point, Toke caught fire scoring three of Central's final four scores of the half. Toke scored with an assist from Perkoski, her fourth of the half, and an assist from Vendel. She also posted an unassisted goal.
Sudock notched Central's second to last goal of the period. A free position score with 6:09 left in the half.
The Blue Devils scored the first goal of the second half to increase their lead to 13-4. Perkoski found the net for the first of her three second half goals. She was assisted by Sudock.
After an LIU goal, Toke scored her fifth and final goal of the game.
McCurry passed to junior Mackenzy Ryan for a goal and Healy passed to Perkoski for a score to make it 16-5.
LIU netted its final score of the game at the 10:35 mark, but the Blue Devils were still able to put in another pair of goals.
Sudock passed to Ryan for the first and then Healy fed Perkoski for the final goal of the game making it 18-6.
The Blue Devils held a slight edge in draw controls, 14-12, but Central's defense kept putting the ball back into the hands of the offense.
The Blue Devils caused 11 turnovers led by junior Ali Roche who forced five. Roche also picked up six ground balls in the game.
Senior goalkeeper Erin DeLancey made 10 saves in goal, with eight coming in the second half.
Perkoski finished with a game-high seven points, three goals and four assists. Toke scored a game-high five goals and also had an assist.
The Blue Devils return to action on Sunday when they host Wagner at 2 p.m.
