Lacrosse Falls to Fresno State, 18-8
The Central Connecticut lacrosse team fell to Fresno State on Thursday afternoon.
The Central Connecticut lacrosse team fell to Fresno State on Thursday afternoon. The Blue Devils (2-4) battled back from a 5-0 deficit, but fell, 18-8, to the Bulldogs (2-3). Senior Ashley Mara scored three goals in the game.
The Blue Devils rallied from the early 5-0 deficit by scoring five goals in less than 10 minutes to tie the game.
Mara scored two of her three goals during that stretch. Junior Betsy Vendel and senior Ashley Perkoski also scored goals, as did senior Cara Momnie who came off the bench to tie the game at 5-5. Perkoski also contributed a pair of assists during Central's run.
After surrendering a sixth goal to Fresno, the Blue Devils answered with a pair of scores to take their first lead of the game. Junior Mackenzy Ryan scored off a free position shot and Mara completed her hat-trick to give Central its first lead of the game.
After halftime, Fresno State outscored the Blue Devils 12-1.
Momnie scored the lone goal for Central in the second half, her second of the game.
Vendel and Mara each recorded three draw controls to lead the Blue Devils.
Junior Ali Roche played relentless defense for the Blue Devils. She caused a pair of turnovers and provided constant pressure on the Bulldog attackers.
The Blue Devils return to action on Saturday at St. Mary's (CA). That game will begin at 3 p.m. eastern time
