Howe Named NEC Rookie of the Week
Blocked a punt and returned it for a touchdown in the NEC opener.
Central Connecticut State University redshirt-freshman Trey Howe was named the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week on Monday. He was joined as an NEC Prime Performer by quarterback C.J. Duell and defensive lineman Dan Toatley.
Howe impacted the game in a major way on Saturday. Trailing 23-15 in the fourth quarter, the CCSU defense stopped Stonehill and forced a punt. Howe came off the right side and blocked the Skyhawks punt, collected the loose ball and took it back 15-yards for the touchdown.
Duell went 18-28 in the passing game, for a career-high 299 yards. He threw one touchdown, connecting on a 51-yard strike with Naj Johnson. Toatley recorded a game-high two sacks, for 13 yards, on Saturday. He also contributed six tackles, with two solo stops.
CCSU is back in action on Saturday, when it travels to Kent State for a 12:00 pm game on ESPN+.
