Baseball Falls in Series-Opener at FDU on Friday
The Central Connecticut baseball team lost the opener of a three-game Northeast Conference series at FDU, 9-3, on Friday in Teaneck, NJ. Elliot Good had a homerun and drove in two runs for CCSU, but the Knights scored five runs in the seventh and eighth innings to pull away.
The teams continue the series on Saturday with a game at 1:00 p.m.

KEY MOMENTS
- The Knights drew three straight walks to load the bases with no outs in the bottom of the first inning. Justin Sierra would hit an infield single to drive in the first run and keep the bases loaded. Joey DiMotta drew the fourth walk of the inning to force a run and make it 2-0. A groundball double play would account for the first two outs, but another run crossed home to make it 3-0.
- The Blue Devils bounced back to make it a one-run game in the second inning. Jeff Nicol doubled to centerfield to lead off. Following an out, Elliot Good launched his second homerun of the season to make it 3-2.
- Central would tie the game in the sixth inning. Gianno Merlonghi hit a leadoff double before moving to third base on a passed ball. After Nicol drew a walk, Colby Brouillette would hit a ground ball to first base to score Merlonghi and make it 3-3.
- FDU regained the lead in the bottom of the inning before adding two runs in the seventh inning. Jeremy Cheeseman singled with one out before scoring on a double by Hunter D'Amato on the next at bat. Cheeseman singled in a run with one out in the seventh inning to make it 5-3. With the bases loaded, a hit batter forced in another run.
- FDU tacked on three more runs in the eighth inning. A bases loaded hit batter plated the first run before D'Amato singled in two more runs to make it 9-3.
NOTES
- CCSU leads the all-time series, 61-31.
- Randy Guzman came on with the bases loaded and nobody out in the first inning. He managed to get CCSU out of the frame and would toss 4.2 scoreless innings, while allowing just one FDU hit.
- The Blue Devils were limited to just four hits, three of which were for extra bases.
- Good hit a homerun, while Nicol and Merlonghi each had a double. Michael Torniero had a single and a stolen base.
