Baseball Stopped by Merrimack in Series Finale on Sunday
The Central Connecticut baseball team fell to Merrimack, 9-1, in the series finale on Sunday in Northeast Conference action in New Britain. The Blue Devils were shutout over the first seven innings, while the Warriors scored all the offense they would need in the second and third innings.
The Blue Devils play at Fairfield on Tuesday.

KEY MOMENTS
- Merrimack built an 8-0 lead after five innings, including a five-run total in the second and third innings. The Warriors scored runs on a bases loaded walk and a sac fly in the top of the second. Merrimack tacked on three runs in the third, highlighted by RBI singles by Hayden Bond and Alex Haba.
- After CCSU led off the first inning with back-to-back singles by Brady Short and Gianno Merlonghi, Brayden Ryan would retire 14 straight Blue Devils. Michael Torniero would reach on a two-out infield single in the fifth inning to end the stretch.
- Central's lone run would come in the bottom of the eighth inning. Torniero and Elliot Good led off with back-to-back singles and moved up on a groundout. Torniero would score on an RBI-groundout by Merlonghi.
NOTES
- CCSU leads the all-time series, 8-4.
- The teams combined for 17 hits in the game, but the only extra-base hit came from Bond on a ground-rule double in the ninth inning.
- Torniero went 2-for-3 for CCSU.
- Short, Merlonghi, Good and Domenic Crocenzi each added a single.
- Ryan earned the win for Merrimack and allowed just three hits over 5.0 innings.
- Wyatt Cameron threw 4.0 innings in relief for CCSU. He struck out four, scattered three hits and was charged with two runs, just one earned.
