Mendelson Leads Women's XC At NCAA Regionals
Sophomore Brittany Mendelson recorded a 45th place at the NCAA Regionals on Friday afternoon, leading the Blue Devils to a 30th place team finish.
The Central Connecticut women's cross country team finished 30th out of 38 teams at the 2015 NCAA Northeast Cross Country Regionals on Friday afternoon. The 6K meet was held at Franklin Park in Boston, MA and featured 257 total runners.
Northeast Conference Individual Champion, sophomore Brittany Mendelson, led the way for the Blue Devils at the regional meet, claiming a 45th place individual finish. Mendelson navigated the 6K course in a time of 21:52 to earn the 45th place result out of 257.
Mendelson was followed by senior Mara Lieberman and freshman Madeline Mondo. Lieberman crossed the finish line second for the Blue Devils with a final time of 23:25 to place 156th overall. Mondo was right behind her taking 180th place with a time of 23:53.
Senior Ally Gates and freshman Dawn Hubbell rounded out the scoring runners for CCSU finishing 183rd and 198th, respectively. Gates turned in a time of 23:54 and Hubbell completed the course right behind her in 24:07.
Junior Brandy LeClair and sophomore Victoria Cronin also competed in the meet for Central. LeClair finished 228th with a final time of 24:40 and Cronin crossed the finish line at the 24:42 mark to claim a 230th place finish.
The Blue Devils totaled 762 points and averaged a time of 23:27 across the five scoring runners to earn the 30th place finish out of 38 teams. Central's 30th place finish put them ahead of schools such as Binghamton, Fairfield and Maine, as well as Bryant from the Northeast Conference.
Providence won the meet with a score of 49 followed by Syracuse (92), Brown (139), Boston College (143) and Yale (156) to round out the top-five.
The Blue Devils' women's cross country team will return to action next weekend with the ECAC Championships. The meet will be held next Saturday at Van Cortland Park in Bronx, NY.
