Volleyball Splits Matches Saturday at Friar Classic
CCSU defeated Saint Peter's in five sets to close out its weekend.
The Central Connecticut volleyball team split a pair of matches at the Friar Classic on Saturday in Providence, RI. CCSU fell to Providence, 3-0, in the first match before defeating Saint Peter's, 3-2, to close the day..
The Blue Devils travel to Manhattan on Wednesday for a 7:00 p.m. match.

KEY MOMENTS
- PC scored the first three points of the match and went on to build a 9-2 lead in the opening set. The Friars maintained control of the set and took the opening frame after holding CCSU to a -.100 hitting percentage.
- The Friars would score the first six points of the second set. The Blue Devils would not be able to get closer than 8-4 the rest of the way.
- The third set was even at 6-6 before PC outscored CCSU, 6-1, to build a five-point lead. Madison Massaro-Cook would serve an ace to get Central within, 14-11, but the Friars would push the lead out seven points before closing the match with back-to-back points.

KEY MOMENTS
- In the opening set CCSU would score five straight points to go ahead 12-9 after a kill by Margaret Nolan. SPU would fight off one set point before Mia Lombardo finished the set with her fifth kill of the frame.
- Central led 4-0 in the second set, but SPU would recover to tie the set at 15. The Peahens would record back-to-back aces to take the lead and evened the match with a win in the set.
- Central opened the third set with three straight kills and an ace by Nolan. The Blue Devils would maintain the lead throughout the set and closed it out with six straight points on serves by Amaia Tapia.
- Saint Peter's would win the fourth set to send the match to a decisive frame. In the fifth set, Isabelle Roufs served five straight points as CCSU went ahead, 6-1. The Blue Devils would maintain a margin of at least three points throughout and won on a kill by Weronika Poczynek, her fifth of the set.

.231 – CCSU hit a season-high .231 in its win over Saint Peter's.
NOTES
- Poczynek had 30 kills in the two matches, including 24 against Saint Peter's. She added 17 digs for a double-double.
- Tapia had three aces and 17 digs in the win over SPU.
- Mia Lombardo had nine digs with three kills and two blocks against PC. She posted 14 kills and eight digs against SPU.
- CCSU had eight service aces against SPU, it's second-most of the season.
- CCSU is 12-3 against PC since 2001 and 5-1 against Saint Peter's.
