Volleyball Stumbles Against NJIT on Tuesday Night
The Blue Devils dropped their home-opener to NJIT in straight sets.
The Central Connecticut volleyball team fell to NJIT on Tuesday night, 3-0, in its home-opener at Detrick Gymnasium. Isabelle Roufs and Mia Lombardo each had nine kills to lead the CCSU attack.
The Blue Devils will play Marist on Friday at 4:00 p.m. at the American University tournament in Washington, D.C.

KEY MOMENTS
- CCSU would claw back from an early four-point deficit in the opening set and would tie the set at 8-8 following a kill by Roufs. The set was tied at 11-11 before the Highlanders scored five straight points. CCSU would again fight back and used a 4-0 spurt to take a 22-21 lead. NJIT would rally with three straight points and closed out the set with a kill.
- The Highlanders built a 6-1 lead in the second set and would lead by 9-4 before forcing a Blue Devils timeout. NJIT would push its lead to as much as 16-9 in the set before CCSU managed to get within 21-17 after an ace by Roufs. The Blue Devils could not get closer, however.
- In the third frame, following an opening point by CCSU, NJIT would score five straight points. Central would climb back and eventually took a 13-11 lead following a block by Weronika Poczynek. CCSU would go ahead, 15-14, after a kill by Louise Lion, but that was its last lead of the night. NJIT scored the final three points and won the match in straight sets.

11 – The Blue Devils committed 11 service errors in the match, compared to just four by NJIT.

- The Blue Devils had a five game win streak in the series snapped.
- Roufs added a team-high three blocks, while hitting .471, with three aces.
- Lombardo hit .304 and had three digs and a block.
- Hiemer finished with 26 assists.
