Central Connecticut women's basketball senior Jessica Babe was named to the 2013-14 CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-District women's basketball team on Thursday afternoon. Babe's academic achievements, paired with her on-court success for the Blue Devils, earned her a spot on the first team for District I.
Babe is one of five NCAA Division I student-athletes on the District I first team, which includes institutions from Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire and New York.
By earning a place on the District I first team, Babe will be added to the ballot for consideration for Capital One Academic All-America honors.
Babe currently leads the Blue Devils in scoring (13.2 pts/g), rebounding (6.4 rbs/g) assists (4.56 asts/g) and steals (2.5 stls/g). She is also the team leader in total points (237), rebounds (115), assists (82) and steals (45).
Babe has started all 18 games for the Blue Devils and has played a team-high 612 minutes this season.
Her excellent play was highlighted by a triple-double on Dec. 21 against Rider. In that game she registered 15 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. It was the first triple-double in CCSU women's basketball program history.
Now in her fourth season, Babe is also climbing the CCSU career lists for steals and assists. She is currently third on the career steals list with 213 and is tied for fourth on the all-time assists list with Sethe Thompson at 343.
A Pittsburgh, PA native, Babe majors in psychology with a minor in Spanish. She has earned a place on the Northeast Conference Academic Honor Roll in each year of her college career and has also been named to the NEC Commissioner's Honor Roll three times. To earn a place on the commissioner's honor roll a student-athlete must maintain a cumulative grade point average above 3.75 on a 4.0 scale.
