Men's Track Gives Impressive Showing at John Thomas
Central is back in Boston on Feb. 1-2 for the New England Championships.
The Central Connecticut men's indoor track and field team competed in Boston, MA in the second day of the John Thomas Terrier Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 26. The men had an impressive showing and set over 10 personal bests in the meet.
In the track events, sophomore Miles Fye-More finished third and set a personal best in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.12.
Senior Akiel Smith competed in the 200 meter dash earning a fourth place finish after beating his previous time with a 21.72 finish.
Junior Julio Arredondo represented Central in the 1 mile race and he placed 73rd with a time of 4:20.53.
Three Blue Devils set personal bests in the 500 meter dash. Freshman Jason Walton finished with a time of 1:06.50 in 23rd place, senior Matt Baum in 1:07.30 for 27th place, and junior Andrew D'Ovidio in 34th place with a time of 1:08.88.
Junior Richard Grudzwick completed the 800 meter run in 1:52.14 for 12th place. Junior Andrew Findley and freshman Timothy McNamara also competed with times of 1:57.88 and 2:01.97 respectively, both personal bests.
In the 400 meter dash, rookie Garrett Dandridge was in first for Central with a time of 50.24 for 51st palce. Junior Jack St. Clair was right behind him with a time of 50.42 followed by freshman Qasim Danazumi setting a personal bests time of 51.00. Sophomore Darius Wise and freshman Cam Whalen were last to finsh for the Blue Devils with times of 51.74 and 51.92 respectively.
Central had three teams entered in the 4x400 relay. The team consisting of Fye-Moore, St. Clair, Grudzwick, and Dandridge came in 10th place with a time of 3:19.75. Team "B" (Baum, Danazumi, Findley, and Walton) finished in 3:24.83, and Team "C" (Whalen, D'Ovidio, McNamara, and Arredondo) finished with a tie of 3:36.23.
Junior Roberto Piotto and freshman Moroni Lima ran the 3000 meter run. Piotto recorded a personal best time of 8:27.21 for a 26th place finish and Lima crossed the finish line in 9:35.53.
In the field, junior Kevorni Welsh, junior Jarred Creech, and sophomore Trevor Glymph competed in the long jump. Welsh recorded 6.63 meters, Creech 6.08 meters, and Glymph 5.93 meters.
Two Blue Devils recorded personal bests in shot put. Junior Nana Kissi threw 14.09 meters for 12th place. Rookie Ed Radizon threw a bests 12.86 meters and classmate Andrew McCarthy set a new personal record with 12.40 meters.
The three athletes also participated in the weighted throw, where Radizon and McCarthy also beat their previous personal records. Radizon threw 11.14 meters and McCarthy 12.72 meters. Kissi recorded 11.13 meters.
In the triple jump, junior Tyrik Henry leaped a personal best 13.41 meters for 21st place, Glymph 13.28 meters for 22nd place, Welsh 13.06 for 24th place, and Creech 12.67 meters for a 28th place finish.
The men's indoor track and field team is back in Boston Feb. 1-2 for the New England Championships in the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center.
