Men's Soccer Wins on Senior Night, 1-0
Beddouri notches a late winner as Blue Devils down Yale.
Freshman Louis Beddouri scored a late game-winner to lift the Central Connecticut men's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Yale on Senior Night at CCSU Soccer Field on Tuesday. The goal helped the Blue Devils pick up their second shutout win of the year and improve to 5-9-2 overall, while Yale slipped to 1-13-1.
The game-winner came with just under 10 minutes to play after senior Ben Knight sent a long pass ahead to junior EJ Okoro. Okoro chased the ball to the endline and sent a pass to the top of the box for Beddouri who spun away from the Yale defense to get the ball onto his right foot before sending a low shot into the left side of goal to make it 1-0.
The goal capped a back-and-forth second half. Yale had a chance in the 49th minute when Kyle Kenagy got a head onto a cross in front of the Central goal, but senior Ben LaVallee was able to make the save diving to his left.
The Bulldogs had another opportunity just miss in the 60th minute when Henry Albrecht sent a dipping shot on goal that just missed high and kept the teams level.
As the second half went on, CCSU managed to settle in and generate scoring chances of their own. Prior to the game-winner, sophomore Filosmar Cordeiro had the Blue Devils' best chance when he split a pair of Yale defenders on the left wing and sprinted towards goal. His shot from close range was denied by Ryan Simpson in the 65th minute and went out for a corner kick.
LaVallee made a pair of saves in 65 minutes of action before sophomore Carson D'Ambrosio came on and made one save to combine on the CCSU shutout. Simpson finished with two saves in net for Yale.
Prior to the game Central Connecticut honored its seniors; Josef Abele, Charles Giovenco, Ben Knight, Ben LaVallee, Giorgi Mandzulashvili, Freddy Metellus and Zach Zurita.
The Blue Devils close out the regular season at Bryant on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
