Matt Hunter Wins Annual Blue Devil Run
Posts time of 22:44 to win the "unofficial" opening of the 12-13 season
Junior Matt Hunter captured the 17th Annual Blue Devil Run on Wednesday afternoon in New Britain. The run signals the unofficial start of the 2012-13 men's basketball season for the Blue Devils. The first official practice for Central will be this coming Friday, October 12. Wednesday marks 31 days until the first game of the season on November 10 vs. Fairfield.
DICKENMAN SIGNS CONTRACT EXTENSION
The Blue Devil run takes place on a 3.7 mile course adjacent to the Central campus.
Hunter posted a time of 22:44 on the course, winning by almost two minutes over his nearest competition, sophomore Adonis Burbage (24:33). Sophomore Greg Andrade finished third in 25:16, followed by sophomore Shelton Mickell (25:20) and freshman Andrew Hurd (25:39).
Freshman Brandon Peel (26:05), freshman Khalen Cumberlander (27:31), senior Joe Efese (28:59), junior Terrell Allen (31:15) and redshirt freshman Erik Raleigh (32:00) round out the 10 Blue Devils who participated in the run.
The Blue Devil Run has been an annual event at the beginning of the basketball season since head coach Howie Dickenman took over the men's basketball program 17 years ago.
The Blue Devils begin practice for the 2012-13 season on Friday in New Britain. The first game of the season will take place on Saturday night, November 10th against Fairfield in the Connecticut 6 Classic at 8 p.m. This year the Classic will be held at the University of Hartford.

Sophomore guards Kyle Vinales and Malcolm McMillan were excused from the run, as was junior guard De'Angelo Speech.
