Peel Named Co-Rookie of the Week
Freshman averaged 11.5 points and 13.5 rebounds last week
Central Connecticut freshman forward Brandon Peel was named the Choice Hotels Northeast Conference Co-Rookie of the Week on Monday. Peel, who has started four straight games for CCSU, had a tremendous week for the Blue Devils.
Peel started his week at home on Thursday night, posting career-highs of 17 points and 17 rebounds in a four-point victory over Sacred Heart. Peel's 17 rebounds in the game were the most in a single game for a Blue Devils since Obie Nwadike had 17 three times during the 2006-07 season. He also had a career-best four blocks in the victory.
He followed that up with six points and 10 boards in a home loss to Bryant on Saturday. It marked his third straight game with 10 or more rebounds.
Peel has made four straight starts after coming off the bench for the first 11 games of the season. In those four starts Peel is averaging 7.3 points and 11.5 rebounds, including 18 offensive boards. He also has a team-best six blocks and has seven steals in those games.
Peel is now averaging 5.7 rebounds per game, second on the team and the most among NEC freshman.
The Blue Devils are 6-9 overall and 2-2 in NEC play, and are off until Thursday night when they host Wagner at 7 p.m. The game will be televised live on CPTV Sports.
