Football Releases 2017 Schedule, Spring Game Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
Blue Devils will open the season at Syracuse on September 1
For the second time in program history the Central Connecticut football program will play an FBS opponent. The Blue Devils, who played at Western Michigan on September 22, 2007, will open the 2017 football season on the road at Syracuse on Sept. 1.
"We are tremendously excited about this opportunity," head coach Pete Rossomando said on Friday, one day before the annual Blue-White Scrimmage. "To travel and play a program with the successful history of Syracuse is a great opportunity for our student-athletes and our program. It is an exciting start to a season that we are looking forward to in 2017."
The Blue Devils will end the 2017 spring season with their annual Blue-White Scrimmage on Saturday morning, April 22, at 10:30 a.m. The roster has been divided into two teams, and a regular game (with the exceptions of kickoffs and punts) will be played. Warm-up begins at 10:30 a.m., with the game scheduled to begin around 11 a.m.
"Entering our fourth season we are excited to have a number of starters returning on both sides of the ball in 2017," Rossomando said. "We have strong leaders who have done a fantastic job this spring getting everyone moving in the right direction. We are excited about the upcoming season and for these guys to go out and have a little bit of fun tomorrow morning."
In the fall the Blue Devils open on the road at Syracuse on Friday night, Sept. 1, and then open the home portion of their schedule vs. Fordham on Sept. 9. The Rams finished last season 8-3 overall and were second in the Patriot League with a 5-1 record. They won three straight to end the season.
Following their home opener the Blue Devils will play FCS National Runner-up Youngstown State on the road on Sept. 16. They'll return home to face Walsh University on Sept. 23.
Central opens the Northeast Conference season on Sept. 30 at Sacred Heart, and then returns home for Homecoming on Oct. 7 hosting Ivy co-Champion Penn at 1 p.m. Penn finished last season 7-3 overall and 6-1 in the Ivy League. It is the final non-conference game of the season.
The Blue Devils finish the season with home NEC games vs. Bryant (Oct. 21), St. Francis U (Nov. 4) and Robert Morris (Nov. 18) and road NEC games at Wagner (Oct. 14) and at Duquesne (Nov. 11).
