Baseball Summer League All-Star Games Include CCSU Standouts
The Central Connecticut baseball team had a collection of six student-athletes named to the All-Star Game in their respective collegiate summer baseball leagues. The Blue Devils will be well represented in the summer showcase games for the New England Collegiate Baseball League and the Futures League.
The NECBL All-Star Game will be held on July 24 at Martha's Vineyard. The game will include five Blue Devils, including three on the North Division squad. The North Division team will include pitcher Randy Reyes (North Adams), shortstop Dan Covino (Keene) and outfielder Hunter Pasqualini (North Adams). Reyes currently leads the league with a 1.39 ERA. He has has gone 1-2 with 25 strikeouts against 12 walks in 32.1 innings pitched. He was on point against Bristol on July 16 when he tossed 6.0 shutout innings, allowing just three hits with seven strikeouts. Covino was selected as a starter for the all-star game and has hit .257 with 20 runs scored, 14 RBIs and seven stolen bases. On June 17 at Upper Valley he recorded three hits and drove in three runs. Pasqualini is hitting .276 this summer and has scored 17 runs with six stolen bases. He has recorded eight multi-hit games.
The South Division team includes pitcher Luke Garofalo (Bristol) and first baseman Noah Martinez (Newport). Garofalo has helped Bristol to a 27-10 record, good for first place in the West Division. He's appeared in 11 games, tossing 11.0 innings, posting a 0.81 ERA with 16 strikeouts. Martinez, who has helped Newport top the Coastal Division, was tabbed a starter for the game and has a .301 average with three homeruns and 25 RBIs. He had 12 RBIs in back-to-back games on July 15-16. Against Danbury he had four hits, including two homers, and knocked in seven runs, before driving in five runs the next night.
In the Futures League, Michael Torniero will represent Team Lara in the league's all-star game on July 26 in New Britain. Torniero has patrolled the outfield for the New Britain Bees, collecting a .341 average with 19 runs scored and 14 RBIs. He's swiped 13 bags, while having 10 multi-hit games for the Bees who are in second place in the league. He had a two-hit, three-stolen base game with two RBIs against Norwich on July 10.
