Baseball Wins in Walk Off Fashion Over Marist
The Central Connecticut baseball team rallied for an 11-10 win over Marist on Tuesday in New Britain. The Blue Devils trailed by seven runs entering the eighth inning but completed their comeback after junior Noah Martinez hit a bases-loaded single to drive in two runs for the win.
Central closes out the regular season with a three-game series against Merrimack beginning Thursday.

KEY MOMENTS
- With the wind blowing out to right field the teams would combine for four homeruns in the opening three innings. Reece Armitage and Niko Amory each had a two-run and three-run homerun, respectively, for Marist, while junior Dan Covino had a two-run shot for CCSU and Martinez had a solo homer to make it 5-3 after three innings.
- The Red Foxes would plate three runs in the fourth inning and Gavin Noriega added sacrifice flies in the sixth and eighth innings to push the margin to 10-3.
- Central would begin its climb back with four runs in the eighth inning. The Blue Devils had their first four batters of the inning reach base, including a string of three singles. Sophomore Jeff Nicol and junior Dylan Sanchez had back-to-back RBI-knocks to make it 10-5. Following a pair of fly outs, a wild pitch moved the runners to second and third. Covino would deliver a double to right-center plating two runs to cut the deficit to 10-7.
- In the ninth, the Blue Devils opened with three consecutive singles to load the bases. Senior Jay Devito and Covino drew back-to-back bases loaded walks to each force in a run and make it 10-9 and set the table for Martinez. He would single through the right side allowing Devito and sophomore Elliot Good to cross home and win the game.
NOTES
- The Blue Devils finished with 16 hits as a team, marking the seventh time this season with 15 or more hits.
- Covino and junior Mike Torniero each had three hits on the day. Covino reached base five times in total and drove in five runs.
- Martinez finished the day with two hits and three RBIs.
- Nicol added two hits as well.
- The Blue Devils used nine pitchers in the game with each tossing an inning. Sophomore Luke Garofalo got the win after tossing a scoreless top of the ninth.
- Central has gone 14-5 since April 12.
