Baseball Powers by Quinnipiac at Dunkin' Donuts Park on Tuesday
Central Connecticut banged out 13 hits on Tuesday in a 9-6 win in mid-week baseball action against Quinnipiac at Dunkin' Donuts Park. Freshman Kyle Gordon had three hits and sophomore Joe Rios launched a three-run homerun in the victory.
The Blue Devils begin a three-game Northeast Conference series at first-place FDU on Friday.

KEY MOMENTS
- Quinnipiac drew first blood in the top of the first, plating three runs. Kyle Maves knocked an RBI-single and Danny Melnick hit a two-run homerun to make it 3-0.
- Central would respond with a four-run second inning to jump in front. The first two batters reached base before sophomore Joe Rios launched a one-out homerun into the right field seats to tie the game, 3-3. After back-to-back singles put runners on first and second the Bobcats recorded the second out. Senior Jay Devito managed to beat out an infield single that allowed freshman Kyle Gordon to race home from second base and make it 4-3.
- With two outs in the fourth inning, CCSU had runners on first and second. Junior Dan Covino appeared to hit an inning-ending pop up into shallow centerfield, but the ball was dropped and two runs crossed home for the Blue Devils to make it 6-3.
- The teams would trade runs in the fifth, with the Bobcats scoring on a wild pitch in the top of the inning. Central put runners on first and second with one out in the bottom of the inning and Gordon poked a single into left field to drive in a run and make it 7-4.
- Quinnipiac mounted a charge in the top of the seventh with back-to-back singles to open the inning. A groundout moved both runners into scoring position and Maves would hit an infield single to plate a run. With a runner on first and second, CCSU induced a groundout to get the second out, but a throwing error on the play allowed another run to score and make it 7-6 before junior Tim Buchek came on and got an inning-ending strikeout.
- In the bottom of the seventh, senior Sam Loda hit a one-out double. With two outs, Gordon roped his third hit of the day to drive in Loda. He would then steal second and scored on a single by sophomore Elliot Good to make it 9-6.
NOTES
- CCSU head coach Charlie Hickey is 599-520-5 in 23 years at CCSU and has a 705-581-6 record overall.
- Buchek picked up his second save of the year, allowing only a double to lead off the ninth. He would finish with three strikeouts in 2.1 innings.
- Sophomore Randy Reyes earned the win. He tossed 3.0 innings and allowed just one run on three hits and a walk. He struck out three.
- Gordon would finish the day 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs.
- Good would add three hits and an RBI, while Devito had two hits, a run scored and an RBI.
