Baseball Shutout at Bryant on Saturday
The Central Connecticut baseball team suffered an 8-0 shutout at Bryant in Northeast Conference action on Saturday in Smithfield, RI. Central was limited to four hits on the day, while the Bulldogs scored three runs in the bottom of the first to get all the offense they would need.
The Blue Devils and Bulldogs wrap up the series on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

KEY MOMENTS
- Following a strikeout to open the bottom of the first, Jake Gustin and Alex Lane would hit back-to-back solo homeruns. After a single, Shane Kelly would collect Bryant's fourth straight hit of the inning with a double to drive in a run and make it 3-0.
- The Bulldogs would add a run in the third on a sac fly by Kelly and another in the fifth on a homerun by Randy Carlo to push the lead to 5-0.
- Bryant starter Brett Wichrowski kept the Blue Devils quiet, allowing just two hits through the first five innings. He would toss 6.0 shutout innings before turning the ball over to the bullpen.
- The Bulldogs got three RBI singles in the bottom of the seventh to stretch the lead to 8-0.
NOTES
- Central has dropped back-to-back games for the first time since a four-game slide April 5-12. Central has gone 13-4 in the span since that skid.
- CCSU was held to four singles on the afternoon.
- The Blue Devils slipped into a second-place tie with the Bulldogs in the NEC standings.
- The Blue Devils were shutout for the first time this season. They were last held scoreless on May 28, 2021, in a 6-0 loss to the Bulldogs in the NEC Tournament.
