Roufs Earns Third NEC Defensive Player of the Week Accolade
Milani joins Roufs as an NEC Prime Performer following Blue Devils weekend sweeps
Central Connecticut junior Isabelle Roufs was named Northeast Conference Volleyball/Molten Defensive Player of the Week for the third time it was announced Tuesday by the league office. Sophomore teammate Lauren Milani joined Roufs as an NEC Prime Performer after the duo led the Blue Devils to a weekend sweep of conference matches.
Roufs contributed nine blocks, four solo, and helped the Blue Devils hold their opponents to .084 hitting percentage in a pair of 3-0 sweeps. The Blue Devils, in large part to Roufs efforts, reached double-digits in blocks in both matches, leading to holding Merrimack to a negative hitting percentage in the first set and Stonehill to a 0.0 percentage in the final set on Saturday. Roufs recorded six kills in each of the two matches played and averaged 1.5 digs per match on the week.
For the season, Roufs is averaging 1.17 blocks per set for the season, which ranks second in the NEC, while her .247 season hitting average is the ninth-best number in the league. Her contributions have the Blue Devils second in the league as a team in both hitting percentage, .203, and hitting percentage defense, .175.
Milani tallied 14.5 kills per match on the week and hit .377 in the six sets that the team played. She hit a season-best .640 in the win over Stonehill with 17kills and just one error. She finished the weekend with 29 kills and 18 digs to earn a spot on the Prime Performer list.
CCSU is in action Tuesday night for a non-conference tilt with Bryant. The match is scheduled for 7:00 pm at Kaiser Hall. The Blue Devils return to NEC action on Friday, travelling to Sacred Heart.
