Northeast Conference Women's Indoor Track and Field Poll Announced
The Central Connecticut women's indoor track and field team was predicted to finish fourth in the Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches Poll announced by the conference on Thursday. Four teams earned first place votes including Central which received one. The league championship is slated for Feb. 20-21 at Ocean Breeze in Staten Island, NY
Saint Francis U was picked as the preseason favorite and earned six first place nods.
CCSU, which won the cross country championship in the fall, has a roster featuring a strong squad of distance runners. Senior Angie Rafter returns as the most-decorated distance runner on the circuit. The reigning NEC cross country individual champion won the 800m and 3000m runs at the 2020 indoor conference meet. Sophomore Brooke Morabito turned in an impressive distance double as a rookie at the 2021 NEC Outdoor Championships. She won the 10K and took second in the 5K.
The women's indoor track and field team opens the season at the Wagner College Invitational on Friday, January 7.
