Softball Splits Pair of High Scoring Games with UAlbany
The Blue Devils took game one 9-8, but failed to comeback in game two, losing 8-6 on Tuesday.
The Central Connecticut softball team split a pair of games with the University of Albany on Tuesday afternoon. The Blue Devils scored six runs in the first two innings of game one and were able to hold off a late comeback. However, UAlbany put up four runs in the fourth inning of game two to even the series.
GAME ONE
Score: Central Connecticut 9, UAlbany 8

The bats were hot early for CCSU, as Kaitlin Paterson hit a RBI single scoring Rian Eigenmann. The very next batter, Paige Stringer, sent a missile over the right field fence for a two-run home run. It was the fourth home run of the season for the freshman and gave CCSU a 3-0 lead.

The Great Danes responded in the bottom half of the inning, with a two-run shot from Kelly Barkevich.

The Blue Devils recorded another three run inning, this time in the top of third. Freshman Alex Rogers knocked a single to right center scoring fellow freshman Brooke Fedison, giving CCSU a 6-2 edge.

Central led 7-4 heading into the 7th inning, when the team scored a couple insurance runs. Kim Howard grounded out to third, but scored Stringer giving CCSU a 9-4 advantage.

UAlbany would not go away, as Morgan Petty hit a triple to right field scoring two runners. The Great Danes scored two more runs, but Anaya Hunte got out of the jam and stopped the comeback. Hunte pitched a complete game, giving up 6 earned runs and striking out five batters.

The Blue Devils trailed 1-0 after the first inning, until Molly Bruyns tied the ball game with a RBI single in the second scoring Alex Rogers.

UAlbany put up five consecutive runs, including a grand slam from Katie Falotico in the fourth inning.

CCSU trailed 6-1 until Kim Howard sent a solo shot over the fence. The home run was the first of Howard's career and cut the lead to four.

Trailing 8-2 in the top half of the seventh inning, the Blue Devils made some noise. Freshman Paige Stringer ripped a single to left field scoring Eigenmann and Carli Backlund. Kim Howard would follow her, hitting a double and scoring two runs. However, four runs in the inning would not be enough and the Blue Devils dropped game two. Kari Marks went five innings, allowing seven runs and Kate Houghton pitched the final inning for CCSU giving up one run.

The Blue Devils return to NEC play, as the team hits the road to face Fairleigh Dickinson for a four game series on Friday and Saturday.
