Men's Basketball Falls to UNH, 77-63, in Return to Detrick Gym
Central will play Vermont in the Air Force Reserve Tip-Off Tournament presented by Citi at the Mohegan Sun Arena on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.
Central Connecticut lost to New Hampshire, 77-63, on Tuesday night in men's basketball action at Detrick Gymnasium in New Britain, CT. The Wildcats pulled away with an 11-0 run in the second half to bulild a 15-point lead and the Blue Devils were unable to get within single digits the rest of the way.
Junior Stephane Ayangma scored a career-high 15 points to go with four rebounds, while freshman Myles Baker chipped in a personal-best 16 points. Senior Jamir Coleman scored a season-high 12 points with seven rebounds.
Central 20-of-58 (.345) from the field and 9-of-23 (.391) from the arc. CCSU was 14-of-18 (.778) from the foul line. UNH shot 27-of-62 (.435) from the field and was 11-of-27 (.407) from three-point range). The Wildcats were 12-of-22 at the foul line.

"We're trying to keep them confident, but we have to fight through adversity. I think we let our offense dictate our defense not realizing that defense is something you can bring every night and if you get stops, it [the offense] will come. If you look at the end of the game, we started playing and getting stops and were able to score, but unfortunately if it was too late," said head coach Donyell Marshall of the team's scoring drought in the second half.
KEY MOMENTS
- CCSU scored the first four points of the game and built a 14-6 lead after a bucket by freshman Xavier Wilson midway through the first half.
- UNH outscored Central, 18-4, over a span of 4:29 to take a 27-21 lead in the opening half.
- A layup by Baker with :04 left in the half made it 35-30 at halftime.
- Central cut the deficit to 37-35 following a three-pointer by sophomore Zach Newkirk in the second half.

- The teams were meeting for the first time since Dec. 4, 2013. The Blue Devils had won the previous three meetings.
- CCSU had three players score in the double figures for the first time this season and scored a season-high 63 points.
- The Blue Devils committed a season-low 14 turnovers, while forcing UNH into 16 turnovers.
- Freshman Jamir Reed had a team-high three assists, against one turnover.
- UNH outrebounded CCSU, 51-32, and outscored Central 30-18 in the paint.
