Comeback Falls Short as Men's Basketball Loses to Quinnipiac
The Central Connecticut men's basketball team fell to Quinnipiac on Saturday afternoon. The Blue Devils scored 44 second half points to pull to 67-65, but still came up short against the Bobcats. Junior Chris Baskerville had his second career double-double, as he tied his career-high in points with 16 and set a new career-high 14 rebounds. The loss drops the Blue Devils to 10-7 on the season and 3-3 in Northeast Conference action.

The Blue Devils and Bobcats traded shots early in the game. A Ken Horton lay up tied the game at 14-14 with 10:55 left in the half, but then the Bobcats went on a run. Quinnipiac pushed their led to 24-14 with 8:00 minutes left in the period.
The Blue Devils fired back with back-to-back baskets that cut the lead to 24-18, but the Bobcats pulled away again before finishing the half ahead 37-24. Baskerville had eight of his team-high 16 points in the first half.
After the break the Blue Devils came out fighting, out scoring Quinnipiac 44-36 in the second half. The Blue Devils and Bobcats matched baskets and stops through most of the second half keeping the lead at nine points for most of the period.
A pair of late baskets by Baskerville sparked a Blue Devil run that was capped by a pair of free throws by senior Shemik Thompson that pulled Central to within two points of the Bobcats.
The comeback fell short as Quinnipiac countered with powerful dunk from Jamee Jackson and then converted on four of six free throws to ice the game.
Baskerville led the Blue Devils with 16 points and 14 rebounds. In addition to Baskerville, three other Blue Devils scored in double figures, Horton had 15, Thompson had 12 and sophomore Devan Bailey had 13 points.
The Blue Devils return to action on Thursday night at Monmouth, tip-off is set for 7:45 p.m.
