London Lomax were named the Northeast Conference offensive and
special teams players of the week, it was announced on Monday.
Wanket had a career day and Lomax blocked a punt in the fourth
quarter as the Blue Devils came from behind to defeat Duquesne
31-24 on Saturday in Pittsburgh.
Wanket totaled 233 passing yards, 49 rushing yards, and three
touchdowns while engineering Central Connecticut State's fourth
comeback victory in as many games. Allowing CCSU to remain
unbeaten in Northeast Conference play, the senior quarterback put
together a enormous second half during which he threw for 200 yards
and all three of his touchdown passes.
In the final 9:25 of the third quarter, after the Dukes extended
their 14-10 halftime lead to 21-10, Wanket went 6-of-7 passing for
160 yards and two scores. The 6-foot-4 signal caller, who finished
15-of-20 through the air, hit Josue Paul on a season-long 64-yard
TD pass to pull CCSU within four at the 8:42 mark of the third
period. On the go-ahead drive, Wanket rushed for 18 yards before
finding Aubrey Norris for a 14-yard score. His final TD pass, a
20-yard strike, came on a crucial 4th-and-4 play midway through the
final quarter.
Lomax was responsible for a key punt block during CCSU's 21-point
second-half run that turned a 21-10 deficit into a 31-21
advantage. With Duquesne trailing 24-21 and punting from its own
32-yard line, the sophomore defensive back, who tallied three
tackles and two pass break-ups on defense, stuffed the kick to give
CCSU the ball at the Dukes' 26. The Blue Devils' second punt block
of the day set up their final touchdown in the 31-24 road win.
Lomax's honor is CCSU's third of the special teams variety this
season.
