Opening Meeting Nets More Than 2,000 Items For Maria's Place
CCSU student-athletes provide donation at annual opening meeting
In continuing its opening meeting tradition, the 600 student-athletes of the Central Connecticut State Department of Athletics, suppported Maria's Place, the on-campus food pantry that supports the Central community. This year the Blue Devils donated more than 2,000 needed food items to help stock the pantry for the coming year.

Each year, on the night before the fall semester begins, the CCSU Department of Athletics has an opening meeting for its student-athletes, that serves as a welcome back and kick-off for the coming season. Most importantly, it has become an evening to showcase the Blue Devils support for their community.
"This is who we are and this is what we do," said Director of Athletics Tom Pincince. "Our student-athletes understand the importance of being a piece of the community at Central, and understand what it means to give back to that community. This donation, amongst the championships and academic successes, is arguably the highlight of the year for me. I am filled with pride at the commitment of our student-athletes in their support of their fellow students."
Maria's Place provides the Central community with donated, non-perishable items to ensure that Central students, faculty, and staff can acquire the necessary items to fulfill basic needs. Access to food and necessary supplies is a human right and everyone ought to be treated with respect and dignity. Thanks to the ongoing support of our generous Central community members and the University's Circle of Care Team, Maria's Place can continue to serve the Central community.
This is a free service for all current Central students, faculty, and staff who are in need of food and other necessary items. Those using the pantry may take ten items per visit. During the first visit, the individual's Central BlueChip ID Card must be shown. All visits to the pantry are confidential and volunteers maintain the privacy of visitors.
