Dozen Top-10 Finishes On Final Day Of Gompei Invitational
Milhomens takes bronze in the 200 backstroke
The Central Connecticut State swimming and diving team posted 12 top-10 finishes on the final day of the Gompei Invitational, hosted by WPI in Worcester, MA.
The Blue Devils final day effort was paced by third-place finish from Sophie Milhomens in the 200 backstroke and a fourth-place finish from Jewelle Maziarz on the 3-meter board.
The Blue Devils return to action December 17th at the CSCAA Open Water Championship in Miami, FL.
100 Freestyle
- Shannon Welcome went 53.56 Sunday night to place eighth to pace five Blue Devils that all lowered their preliminary swims
- Gabby Spaciano (54.32) and Kelly Stotler (43.34) battled to the finish, and earned 15th and 16th place respectively
- Lauryn Cowing finished 28th after a swim of 55.27 and Maggie Rutledge went 56.42 to finish 38th
200 Backstroke
- Sophie Milhomens took bronze with a swim of 2:05.39, nearly 1.5 seconds faster then her swim in the prelims
- Megan Dunnigan placed ninth in the A-Final, notching a time of 2:08.89
- Nathalie Pena shaved nearly two seconds off of her preliminary effort in the C-Final, finishing 22nd with a swim of 2:11.57
200 Butterfly
- Gabi Wroblewski went 2:09.44, 2.2 seconds faster than her prelim time, to finish fifth
- Welcome took ninth with a 2:12.04 swim Sunday evening
- Milhomens won the B-Final, posting a 2:11.50, a 1.5 second improvement from her qualifying swim
- Kyla Behrle was 15th with a swim of 2:13.61 and Jillena Plowucha was more than half a second faster, earning 19th place with a swim of 2:17.63
- Marley Milne placed 25th with a 2:18.90 effort Sunday evening, while Wynter Berube finished 30th with a swim of 2:22.67
50 Breaststroke
- Cassidy Stotler went 30.88 to place fourth, while Abby Bacon notched a 32.03, tying for sixth place
- Grave young swam a 32.91 to win the B-final
3-meter Diving
- Jewelle Maziarz placed fourth on the high board, scoring 411.85 points in finals
- Kaitlyn Carroll finished fifth on the board, scoring 395.00 points
1,650 Freestyle
- Abbey Keane placed fifth in the mile, with a swim of 17:47.72
- Maggie Rutledge placed ninth clocking a time of 18:04.06
- Sophia Pincince finished 21st, with a swim of 18:52.44
- Behrle placed 23rd at 18:55.46, with Berube 26th after a 19:16.67
400 Freestyle Relay
- Spaciano, Dunnigan, Kelly Stotler and Welcome combined for a swim of 3:37.48 to earn sixth place
- Milhomens, Cassidy Stotler, Lauryn Cowing and Morgan O'Hara combined for 10th place after a swim of 3:40.04
