Women's Soccer Receives NSCAA Team Ethics Award
The CCSU women's soccer team earns the NSCAA Team Ethics Award for registering zero red cards and less than five yellow cards during the 2012 season.
The Central Connecticut women's soccer team was awarded the NSCAA Ethics Award by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America for its outstanding ethical practices on the field during the 2012 season.
The NSCAA Ethics award recognizes programs that exhibit fair play, sporting behavior and adherence to the laws of the game, as reflected by the number of yellow caution cards or red ejection cards they are shown by referees throughout the season.
There are three levels of the ethics award: gold, silver and bronze. Of the 12 Division I women's teams selected for the award, eight earned the silver distinction while the remaining four took bronze. The Blue Devils were among the eight to receive the silver award, characterized by registering a team total of less than five yellow caution cards and no red ejection cards for the complete 2012 season.
"This award is a great accomplishment for our team," Head Coach Mick D'Arcy said, "it demonstrates that we try to play the game in a competitive but fair spirit, while respecting our opponents and the referees."
CCSU is the only team from the New England area to make the list and is also the only team to represent the Northeast Conference. The Blue Devils wrapped up the 2012 regular season with a 4-13-1 overall record (3-7 NEC) and boasted three All-Conference awardees as well as the NEC Goalkeeper of the Year.
