Longwood Tops Women's Lax 11-10
Freshman Elyse Malecki scores career-high three times in loss
Freshman Elyse Malecki scored a career-high three times, including twice in the second half, but the Central Connecticut women's lacrosse team dropped an 11-10 home decision to Longwood on Friday night. The Lancers are now 4-0 on the season. Central falls to 1-3 with the loss.
Senior Betsy Vendel scored three times and added an assist, moving within two points of becoming the all-time points leader in CCSU lacrosse history. She scored two of her goals after halftime as the Blue Devils erased a 7-3 halftime deficit to tie the game at 9-9 in the second half.
The Lancers scored the first goal of the second half to take an 8-3 lead, but the Blue Devils responded by scoring three straight goals to make it 8-6 with 26 minutes left in the game.
Malecki scored her second goal, followed by one from Vendel, and then Malecki's third goal to cut the lead in half.
Longwood scored to make it 9-6, but the Blue Devils answered again with three straight to tie the game at 9-9 with under 12 minutes to play. Vendel scored again, followed by goals from junior Claire Healy and sophomore Andrea Tarsi.
Longwood answered with two more goals to pull ahead 11-9. Senior Mackenzy Ryan scored her first goal of the game to make it 11-10, the eventual final score.
Ryan ended the game with a goal and four assists. Vendel had three goals and an assist, while Malecki had three goals. Sophomore Morgan Tullar made five saves in goal for the Blue Devils.
Central will return to action on Mar. 16 on the road at LaSalle at 1 p.m. They will play four straight games on the road before returning home on Mar. 28 to host Sacred Heart.
