Softball Tabbed Seventh in Preseason Poll
The Central Connecticut softball team was tabbed seventh in the Northeast Conference preseason coaches' poll, announced Thursday. The Blue Devils open their 2023 campaign on February 24th in Hampton, VA at the Hampton Classic. They are set to play Morehead State at 10:00 am.

Head coach Breanne Gleason will begin her tenth campaign at the helm of the Blue Devils' program. Seniors, Kaylee Whittaker and Kim Howard, as well as junior Paige Stringer return to lead the squad. Whittaker appeared in 20 games and struck out 89 in 139.0 innings. Stringer hit a team-high .285 with seven homeruns and 23 RBIs, while had six round trippers and drove in 20 RBIs on the year.
Saint Francis University, the five-time defending Northeast Conference champions, received all nine first-place votes to be tabbed as preseason favorite. LIU came in second followed by Fairleigh Dickinson and Sacred Heart, to round out the top four. Merrimack and Wagner are tied in the fifth-place position, followed by CCSU at seventh and Stonehill in the eighth spot.
